Standardized for frontline infantry, U.S. Army Rangers, Paratroopers (Airborne), and Marine Raiders, the 5-cell 20-round magazine pouch was the primary ammunition carrier for the Thompson Submachine Gun throughout early and mid-war operations. Carried on standard M1936 pistol belts across North Africa, the Pacific, and the European Theater of Operations (ETO), intact early pouches with brass hardware remain among the most recognizable pieces of American WWII field kit.

Construction & Hardware Details

  • Pocket Configuration: Five individually flapped cells tailored specifically to securely carry standard 20-round “stick” magazines chambered in .45 ACP.

  • Early Brass Hardware: Secured by five early-pattern brass Lift-the-Dot fasteners featuring the desirable star-pull / raised rim pattern, finished in darkened anti-glare blackened brass.

  • Canvas Weave & Stitching: Heavy-duty OD3 / khaki cotton duck webbing with reinforced edge binding and period-authentic heavy cotton lock-stitching.

  • Belt Mounting: Rear features a wide, heavy canvas tunnel loop designed to slide directly onto the standard M1936 pistol belt or cartridge belt.

Source & Provenance (Sauce)

  • Military Stenciling: Crisp, dark original ink-stamped “U.S.” centered across the main pocket bodies and flaps.

  • Contractor & Hardware: Period snap hardware by Lift-the-Dot (Carr Fastener Co.) with early wartime manufacturing characteristics (c. 1941–1943).

  • Condition & Integrity: Excellent original condition with fully functioning snap closures, intact seam stitching, strong canvas fiber integrity, and honest field wear without tears or rot.
