An authentic World War II German Wehrmacht MGZ34 (Maschinengewehr-Zielfernrohr 34) heavy optical periscope sight, manufactured by premier optical firm J.D. Möller under the secret ordnance code dhq. Complete with its period-original stamped sheet-steel MGZ 40 marked transit case (Transportkasten), this precision optic was engineered for direct and indirect sustained fire on the Lafette 34 and Lafette 42 machine gun tripods. Authenticated and available at Armfoundry.com
Adopted alongside the MG34 and later deployed on the MG42, the MGZ34 transformed standard infantry machine guns into long-range sustained-fire heavy artillery weapons when mounted on the cushioned Lafette heavy tripod. Operating on a periscopic optical axis, the sight allowed German gunners to lay precise direct and indirect plunging fire out to 3,500+ meters while keeping the operator safely below parapet cover and trench berms.
Periscopic Optics: 3x magnification optical column providing a wide field of view, incorporating an internal collimating range reticle and dual horizontal/vertical micrometer adjustment drums.
Leveling & Trajectory Controls: Fitted with integral spirit bubble levels and elevation/windage click drums graduated for 7.92x57mm Mauser ballistics.
Night Reticle Illumination: Features an external illumination battery port with a swivel reflector window, allowing night-time illumination of the internal aiming reticle.
Mounting Interface: Quick-release dovetail slide shoe designed to lock securely into the traversing buffer mechanism of both the Lafette 34 and Lafette 42 tripods.
Construction: Heavy-gauge stamped sheet steel with original field-gray / olive-green wartime paint, reinforced corner stamping, and spring-loaded front draw latch.
Markings: Lid roll-embossed with crisp M.G.Z. 40 military nomenclature.
Internal Fit: Includes sprung shock-absorbing interior mounting brackets, leather retention buffers, and internal accessory compartments.
Manufacturer Code: Stamped with wartime maker code dhq, identifying J.D. Möller Optische Werke G.m.b.H. of Wedel in Holstein.
Cold-Weather Lubrication Proof: Marked with factory lubricant code stamping (KF / blue circle/triangle) for sub-zero Eastern Front operation.
Inspection Markings: Authentic military Waffenamt (WaA) acceptance stamps and serial numbers stamped into the lower optic housing and case latch assembly.
Condition & Clarity: Clear optical path with intact reticle crosshairs, smooth adjustment dials, supple rubber eye cup, and honest field-use patina on all external steel surfaces.
